Default The REAL Emo/Screamo Thread

So I have been getting tired of people not knowing what they are talking about when it comes to Screamo/Emo and assuming every band that screams fits in there. This thread will have a list on the first page ( which myself or the mods will update when people suggest new screamo/emo bands.

Definition (from wikipedia but it's pretty accurate)
Quote:
Screamo is a musical genre which evolved from emo and hardcore punk in the early 1990s. "Emo" and "screamo" are essentially meant to describe the same style of music, changing with the progression of bands and fans. Characteristic of the genre are "loud-to-soft" (sometimes chaotic) dynamics, harmonized guitars with fast-paced riffs and twinkly melodic breaks, frantic/abrasive shouting or screaming, angry/abstract/introspective lyrics, low-end production, and exceptionally energetic live shows. Screamo bands also tend to bury the vocals in with the other instruments and use more arpeggiated progressions, dynamic and time changes. Breakdowns in screamo songs are often slower and quieter than in other genres, though there is a tendency of still screaming during the soft parts.

drop dead gorgeous is not metalcore, if you want to hear true metalcore you listen to sodom, their metalcore, definitely not drop dead gorgeous, their in a diff genre that i dont know of, and drop dead gorgeous is pretty good by the way, prolly the reason why i know they arent metalcore, not saying metalcore sux, because i do like sodom better then drop dead gorgeous, they might be like emocore or screamocore or something like that

Emocore is the same as screamo
and screamocore is nonexitant

other names that kids tacted on to screamo and emo is emoviolence, skram, and emocore. all meaning the same thing.

drop dead gorgeous is more like a scene hardcore.

Wink ......

I love the way the word EMO always causes sudden conflict. It's insane.
And the genre naming. How every band has to be labeled so closely, like all the new genre names and etc. Happy Hardcore, Math Metal it's just seems so silly. Why not just call it Hardcore? Or Metal.
This is basically irrelevant now.
Circle Takes the Square are quite good. I didn't actually know what screamo was, and am doing all my research.

Yeah CTTS is one of the bigger screamo bands out their. one of the most recent. One of my favorites are Funeral Diner and Love Like...Electrocution. Hot Cross and Saetia are other bigger names in the screamo scene. which is currently mooded with fake bands like alesana and shit...makes me sad cause I grew up around a real screamo scene with I Robor and Pianos Became The Teeth

Thats probably why I've heard of them before. I'll make a mental note to check out those other bands. What would you call Alesana though? I quite like their music actually but I can see where you're coming from.

Alesana is more on the pop/hardcore scene i guess. They are way to poppy to be screamo. screamo is almost paralell with hardcore punk. but the lyrics in screamo isn't political or anything, much more emotional

Red face

Yeah I can see what you mean. It's really hard to categorize some bands though, like this morning I was walking to school with a friend and we were talking about some bands like Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Escape the Fate and Aiden. And shes like Red Jumpsuit Apparatus is like the EMO music I have. So I was saying to her no, thats not the case.
I think alot of people don't know what real EMO/Screamo music is and most beleive that EMO music is stuff like Red Jumpsuit and Alesana. So I can understand where it might get frustrating.
I simply told her exactly what you said it's more hardcore/pop/punk stuff.
Also I've checked out funeral diner. They're pretty sweeet.

Yeah all my friends thought bands like Drop Dead Gorgeous and A Static Lullaby were screamo/emo just because they have the typical lyrics and the screaming. but emo is more than the music and the lyrics. it's an attitude and all the bands out now don't hold the true attitude and spirit. Kind of along the same lines as the whole "punk is dead" because their are some punk bands still alive but some people think Sum41 is punk...WHAT!!!!! haha i just laugh at it. The punk attitude is almost dead just like the emo attitude. they r like dinosaur genres ha
