Cool Bulb

One of my favorite musicians is 23 year old Misha Mansoor, aka Bulb. He's composed / worked on well over 150 songs with his band and by himself and with other bands that he doesn't belong to. His favorite style is definitely metal, but he's created electronica and hard rock songs as well. I would consider him an experimental metal player. He uses all the best gear to produce his music, so it all sounds very professional.

My favorite thing about this guy is he gives away all his songs for free! You can go to his myspace or his site and listen to the songs and download them. It's so cool! So give him a listen, he needs all the support he can get! He's headed towards a big future! I've never heard a more talented 23 year old musician than him.

His myspace:
MySpace.com - Bulb (Updated: Ow My Feelings!) - BETHESDA, US - Metal / Experimental / Rock - www.myspace.com/iambulb

His main site where you can download all his songs:
Music page of Bulb - MP3 music page on SoundClick

His youtube page:
YouTube - Periphery's Channel

Enjoy!

His main influences are Dream Theater, Meshuggah, Guthrie Govan, Thordendal + Hagstrom, Pin + Weller, Uematsu, Loomis, Gibson, Uehara, Eklundh, & Abasi

according to his myspace.

He's also working on getting signed to a label right now, and planning on touring extensively with his band Periphery. So check out their stuff if you like his. He's the lead guitarist in the band.

lol.... you haven't listened to all of his songs yet I'm sure. I've never heard of sikth. All I know is, all the bands I mentioned are his main influences. There are hundreds of metal bands I'm sure he listens to and takes some influence from. That's a given with any musician.

According to what I've read on google, Summer Rain is a Meshuggah cover, which is one of his main influences / favorite bands. I tried listening to the other song but I don't like that style of vocals at all, and I didn't hear any noticeable similarities in playing style. Another point worth noting, Bulb's myspace is just where he posts his solo material. He has another hundred songs he's created with his band Periphery, which almost all have vocals. And one more point, before I wrap this up, almost all of the stuff he's written sounds different. He's not one of those "one hit wonders." So you may have found like 2-3 of his songs that in your opinion relate to sikth, but I don't see any relation at all. And I've listened to just about all his songs. He writes material in several different genres including thrash, progressive metal, experimental metal, hard rock, electronica, and even some melodic-sounding rock. The band sikth is considered mathcore / hardcore / progressive metal. Bulb doesn't write anything even close to that style. You're just reaching for similarities so you can claim Bulb is just a Sikth rip-off, which will somehow make you feel better I guess. Then you won't have to accept that somewhere a 23 year old highly talented guitarist is making moves in the music industry without selling out. But the fact is, Periphery has a huge following already, without a single record released or one tour completed. Once they get signed they're going to explode, because a lot of people in this world still appreciate well-honed talent.

I just want to add... I did in fact listen to some more of the Sikth songs you mentioned. I can vaguely see why you think they're a major influence. They both have a similar tone, but that's very likely due to their choice in instruments / amplification / distortion. Their playing style is still completely different. Bulb uses professional gear, so he probably has a similar tone to a lot of well known acts. I wish I had more knowledge about metal, but frankly its not one of my favorite genres. I only listen to a handful of metal bands. But I do have a well-trained musician's ear, so that's what I'm basing my position on in this little debate.

ive read a little bit out of the huge paragraphs you wrote and not even i knew that summer rain was a meshuggah cover, which is outstanding knowledge, anways the reasoning for my belief is the guitar playing style, bulb and sikth both do alot of taps when on the guitar, especially bulb, in bland street bloom by sikth they do alot of taps in that song too, basically they both do alot of taps, maybe sikth isnt bulbs influence but they would definitely be a band they would tour with, if sikth was still together
