Kayo Dot

Avant-garde group Kayo Dot recently produced another mind-boggling album called Blue Lambency Downward. They generously streamed the album in its entirety at www.bluelambencydownward.com, preceding its store-release. The album features complex layers of guitar, violin, clarinet, oboe, trumpet, and dozens of other instruments driven by Toby Driver's signature vocals and surreal lyrics. The Kayo Dot sound is unrivaled in its unique character and intensity. It's almost impossible to draw any comparisons, and I'm at a loss to do so.

Blue Lambency Downward is the third studio album the band has released. Each of it's earlier albums are just as enticing, and magnificently produced. The frontman of the band, Toby Driver, has released one solo album; three album's with maudlin of the Well (the band that later reformed into Kayo Dot), and a recent album with virtuoso violinist Mia under the new name of Tartar Lamb.

It's fair to assume that such a prolific composer of great albums, will continue to astonish us with all future releases. This most recent edition in his brilliant career never fails to arouse my ear drums. This is definitely an album that any fan of intelligent avant-garde or experimental music should hear!
