| Senior Member | Sorry Vale , i took the second choice , excellent song . Kansas as an american band means a lot to old proggers , they have challanged the market during the 70's with a new materials , never been found in America at that time . The blended kind of progressive rock that they created at that time wasn't accepted easily by american music fans . Mixing between folk , rock , blues , classical , country & jazz wasn't tolerarted by american society . But , at the end they did it . Songs like Carry on Wayward , Dust in the Wind , Chasing Shadows etc ..... was simply pop songs can been accepted at that time . But the creativity of Kansas can be clearly seen in releases such as , Kansas ( first album ) , Leftoverture , Point Of no Return , Vinyl Confessions , and many other releases . Wonderful Tracks such , Magnum Opus , Cheyenne Anthem , Chasing Shadows , Miracles out , the Pilgrimage , Apercu etc .... has simply the magical flow of Progressive Rock ( that wasn't available in america at that time ) . So , imho , songs such as " Carry on " are excellent Hits and nothing more . -- N.B = No songs ,hits or tracks can be measured & rated as a masterpiece , but there's a whole work that we rate as Masterpiece . And my opinion , Leftoverture , point of no return , Kansas & Vinyl Confessions are Masterpieces . Tracks Toni |

My Mood: ![]() | Rewiev a disc like this is difficult. How to ignore 'Carry On Wayward Son', a true anthem, which is past for posterity as the most famous and representative of the band, although not believe the best. Secondly because when an album 'strapiace' like this, it is difficult to maintain objectivity without being taken away by. Finally, discriverlo passing between labels, similarities, similarities and similarities various is reductive, useless and in a certain How offensive, especially if we are talking about a group like this and an album that has made the history overseas: four-disc platinum....Whenever the audience come the same feelings. It is liberating, airy, spirited and a bit Monitor: as to get in the car one morning at dawn and drive for miles and miles through landscapes unknown, without thoughts, leaving worries behind, a great escape in short. There accompanies the journey Steve Walsh, with his voice that reaches, with disarming ease, hue inarrivabili, remaining always clear, clean, crisp, never choked, without failure or smudges. The rock music is a powerful, round, never outside the lines. Each track has a history in itself, although the overall result is the homogeneity. The influences are too many, and perhaps even their influence, with this, the production of those who will follow over the years, like Journey, Boston, Reo Speedwagon. Surely there is a lot of British progressive tradition merged with that of American rock on the road, even though in this, which is the fourth of our work, is less marked the first to give more space to the second.Unfortunately, in my opinion, the only sin was committed to implement the second floor of the violin Robby Steinhardt, who represents the trade name of Kansas (brief digression: If you see in the photos today, is the same identical that of thirty years ago, with a tuttuno beard-hair that makes it resemble an ogre!). The songs are a growing slow, gradual and without ever strafare, following a clear focus dictated by the right calibration of time and rhythms, up to 'Cheyenne Anthem', for me the best piece of the whole album... ![]() |

| Senior Member | Bravo , Simo for this review , in fact it is the most important one in GS , specially that i felt myself concerning about Progressive at First Place . The Big Bravo is aslo addressed to this Quote = The songs are a growing slow, gradual and without ever strafare, following a clear focus dictated by the right calibration of time and rhythms, up to 'Cheyenne Anthem', for me the best piece of the whole album..// Unquote // ![]() But i'm really convinced about what i said above and in many reports , regarding Kansas . Here's one of my reviews in Progarchives= Quote // Some people said that Kansas can be easily recognized by Carry on , or Dust in the wind , or many other successful songs during the 70's . But this was completely wrong , Kansas was the only , and i MEAN the only band TO BUILD a bridge for progressive rock to cross over the atlantic & vice versa . Just to give you dear proggers the right idea about this fact from my archive , kept since 1970 for this purpose . Leftoverture was released in 1976 , Carry on was released two month before the album in 45 single version , and hit the top 100 in USA , the album wasn't able to do so . CBS , knew this fact , the european market was different in this reaction . Kansas supplied the european market with new blood , a new blend of heavy symphonic progressive rock , that could not be found in these markets easily , not even by YES & ELP . this reaction was in immediate basis in europe , but took more time for the americans to accept it . In 1976 , while visiting my brother in San Francisco , i couldn't find any tracks of progressive rock music in music stores , with the exception of some European bands . All albums imported from Europe for a high prices . That's why Kansas was accepted as a progressive rock band at the end of the 70's . I can't simply review a pop song like Dust in the wind , and avoid one of the best tracks ever Magnum Opus or cheyenne anthem to feel the difference . Historical & Magical Masterpiece to cross the atlantic & the mediterrenean to introduce a new blend of progressive ,,,,,,,,,,,,, Bravo Kansas & CBS , also Epic for remastering this excellent work ................................... not to mention the attractive cover full of meaning ........ Unquote //// And the sleeve cover of this album was in fact my avatar since i was 50 years , So , the meaning stand , between my review and yours Simo , But Bravo for replying to this post the way you did , yu're completely right ..........
